VOLUNTEERING AT NIJICON

Like most anime/comic book conventions, Nijicon will be relying heavily on our volunteers to help things run smoothly all weekend. Every hour counts so please consider volunteering whatever time you can!

Volunteering is a great way to mingle with the other attendees as well as a backstage pass into how conventions are run. It is a memorable experience that is not only fun but helps to support the comics and movies that you already enjoy. And who knows, if you excel(which we will be taking notice of), volunteering could be your doorway into becoming a staff member.

Now as the name suggests, volunteers are not paid(unless you count experience). Volunteers will also be paying for their own registration and hotel/lodging(We are not a large convention, so unfortunately we can‘t afford rooms for all of our volunteer staff at this point in time). However, since we value our volunteers and the work they do so much, below is a chart outlining the rewards you get for helping us run Nijicon!

BASICS OF VOLUNTEERING

You don’t have to be a dedicated yaoi or M&M/LGBTQ fiction fan, member of the LGBTQ community, or even a comic book fan to volunteer! In fact, volunteering is a great way to find out more about the touching, humorous, and erotic aspects of this genre and meet new people.

- Work a panel to see the enthusiasm that only fan girls/boys possess!

- Run a video room to see the humor and drama that makes LGBTQ cinema so entertaining!

- Stroll the Artist Alley to discover the fantastic artwork inspired by and/or featuring the LGBTQ community!

As a volunteer, you will never be forced to do anything that you don’t want to do and any task that isn’t common knowledge will be taught to you. After all, you are volunteering your time, which we appreciate. We do, however, expect all of our volunteers to be respectful to the staff, fellow volunteers, and all other attendees of Nijicon as well as the Expo Center and to fulfill any tasks within reason. In turn, we will be respectful to you and try our best to give you due credit for your work(besides the rewards offered above).

We also will be rotating staff members so that no one is stuck doing only the tiresome, boring jobs the entire convention and of course so you can experience Nijicon for yourself and hang out with your friends. We ALL pitch in.

Volunteering work is on a first come, first served basis. We have certain areas that NEED a certain amount of people first before we can cater to individual requests. Nijicon cannot guarantee any openings in any department.

Below are examples of the areas where we will need volunteers:

Planning Committee

Panels/Viewings

Artist Alley/Dealers’ Room

Registration

Gofers

Set up

Promotions/Advertising

(this includes representing Nijicon at other conventions)

Security(Badge checkers)

(mostly for entrances and exits of the convention area)

Post-convention wrap up

Nijicon welcomes anyone that is enthusiastic, regardless of gender, age(as long as you’re 18+), etc. to be part of our volunteer team. If you are willing to work, we will find something for you to do!

Also, just because you are a volunteer, it doesn’t give you power over any other attendee. Abusing your position as a volunteer, is the quickest way to lose it

VOLUNTEER RULES

All Volunteers must be 18 and over.(This is to avoid any trouble with Child Labor Laws)

All Volunteers must pre-register by October 15th, 2016. On Friday morning(10/21/2016), all volunteers will be issued their Volunteer badge and a time card(same rules for lost/stolen registration badges apply to lost/stolen Volunteer badges outlined in the VITALS/FAQs section).

All Volunteers will be required to attend a volunteer orientation meeting that will be held on Thursday evening(10/20/2016) at GPEC.(Details will be provided closer to the date of the convention)

Volunteers are not exempt from any of Nijicon’s(or GPEC’s) codes pf conduct and behavior. By agreeing to be a volunteer you are agreeing to the rules above as well as all the other policies listed in the VITALS/FAQs section. Basically, you will be the role model for all our other attendees, so please take this position seriously. As stated before, our convention is unique, and it is one that many venues did not want to take part in. So please demonstrate that you are mature as well as enthusiastic.

Violations of these rules(as well as any other convention policies) may result in: (1)the loss of any and all incentives earned, (2) revocation of volunteer status, and (3)possible removal from the convention.
